This week I showed my client the progress on the website so far. Until now she had only seen the designs and chosen one for me to develop further. She was pleased with how the website was coming along as I explained to her my plans for the next week or so. We discussed additional things she would like to see on the site and I have already implemented some of them. I had to represent flowers on each page somehow, I didn't want to just put an ordinary picture on each page etc, I wanted something a little more inventive.
I gathered some of the pictures that I took while visiting the shop, cropped and sized them to 358x22 so that they would act as headers for my pages and the title would be displayed over them. I thought they looked good but decided to add a bit more to them by animating them. I just applied a transition effect to them so that they are animated each time the page loads. My client was happy with them so that is another requirement met. (I just need to create another one for one more page and if new pages are made it will be easy to create more headers when needed.)
I asked my client what she was looking for in terms of an intro page. She didn't have anything in particular in mind and said she would leave it to me and see what I came up with. She liked my first design so I have stuck with it for now, it may change before the final version.
At the moment, I have my intro page with a link to enter the main site. When clicked it opens the site in a new window. I like this but I am not sure if it is the best way yet...I have run into problems with browser compatability (new window doesn't seem to be the right size in Opera, works perfect in IE). I will sort this out at a later date nearer to when the site is finished in flash.
One more problem is that while the flash site is loading, users can click on the links and if they do this before the entire site has loaded it messes things up. I need to create a loading screen which doesn't let the user click anything until the entire site has loaded. If possible I would like to have a loading screen to begin with and then further screens to load each gallery. I'd rather the galleries load only when clicked on as this would reduce the loading time for the whole site. I imagine this is possible, I just don't know how yet.
