Here are my peer responses from weeks 6-9.
Week 9 - Chris Marsh
I really liked Chris’ website designs. My favourite was the design named 7, the layout is great, the buttons have a subtle but nice line of colour on them and the actual background is lots of colours, but because most of it is covered, it works well. I like that the menu is always on the top of the site as well. I think he will be able to recreate this site effectively in Flash even if he’s not confident using it, because he obviously has how he wants the designs to look in his head. I look forward to seeing his finished site.
Week 8 - Alex Mason
Week 8 was the week we made a flash menu with animated buttons containing movie clips. When clicked, these buttons loaded images which we had converted into movie clips for tweening, We also made a preloader. I really like Alex’s menu, it has three square buttons which shape tween into circles on a mouseover, and all three of his images fade in. He has also made a preloader which is the word ‘loading’ and also has full stops which increase in number as the animation loads. I’m guessing Alex has used Flash before because it looks so smart but if not he’s picked it up quickly.
Week 7 - Carl Barson
Carl’s website was on motorbikes. Admittedly I don’t know much about them or relevant sites but in terms of his designs in his presentation, I think it looks promising. I can see what was meant by the first design looking dated but I think the idea of using the company’s colours was good. The second design was nice but I’m not sure how it would work as I would imagine the menu would be lost whenever you clicked on a button? My favourite design was the third one, because I liked the framing of the background image and the menu was simple, although I think it could also work on the wheels if he gets it to work.
Week 6 - Christina Akinwande
I immediately liked Christina’s site. The use of sound is very good, she has chosen the right sound for the site and the computerised ‘Germaine Christopher Design’ sound also works. The colour is purple but isn’t harsh on the eye, and the star buttons are a great idea. I also like the introduction animation and the fact that it has an option to skip for those who don’t want to watch it. She obviously had some good ideas of what she wanted the site to look like and did appropriate research into other relevant websites.
